INDIANAPOLIS (Friday, Aug. 23, 2024) – INDYCAR officials have announced a six-position starting grid penalty for the driver of the No. 18 HMD Motorsports entry, Caio Collet, ahead of Sunday’s INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland as a carryover from infractions during the Saturday, Aug. 17 race at World Wide Technology Raceway.
The driver was in violation of:
Rule 9.3.2. Blocking – Any Driver who moves in reaction, altering their line based on the actions of pursuing Competitors, may be penalized.
Rule 9.3.3. Avoidable Contact – The primary responsibility for avoiding contact with a Competitor resides with the overtaking Competitor and the secondary responsibility resides with the Competitor(s) being overtaken. A Competitor who fails to demonstrate their responsibility and initiates a maneuver that results in contact with another Competitor may be penalized.
The six-position starting grid penalty mirrors the NTT INDYCAR SERIES penalty options of six positions at road and street course events and nine positions at oval events and will be served at the series’ next event, Sunday, Aug. 25 at Portland International Raceway.
