For Immediate Release

(Warner Springs, CA, March 13, 2024) This Saturday night when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series returns to its home track, Perris Auto Speedway, “Shugah” Shane Sexton will be back in the beautiful family-owned GAS Chassis #74.  While he was there for the season opener three weeks ago, an engine problem cut his night short unceremoniously after qualifying.  He and the team hope to get in more racing this time around with their #1 engine in the car.

Brimming with confidence to start his third season racing with USAC/CRA, things looked bright when Sexton and the crew arrived at the Riverside County half-mile clay oval.  However, his high hopes received a kick in the teeth before the racing started due to the unexpected engine gremlins.

“In hot laps, the car ran good,” the genial driver said.  “Trent Williams and Mark Henry worked on it.   We got it pretty good and we felt good on the first lap (in qualifying).  Went into turn three on the second lap and it blew the head gasket.”

“We were told it may have been a head gasket and told it may not be,” “Shugah” said.  “So, we changed a whole bunch of stuff on the car motor-wise.  As soon as I bumped off for the heat race, I knew right away (that it was a blown head gasket).  So I just putted around till I could turn into the pits.  That was the end of our night.”

As soon as the issues arose at the track, Sexton, his father Stan, and the crew were making plans to be ready for this Saturday’s race.

“We had the motor out the next morning,” the young driver said.  “As we were talking a few weeks ago, the actual primary motor was being put together.  The one we had the issue with was our #2 engine.  So we will be there with our primary and our fingers crossed on Saturday.”

Spectator gates to see “Shugah” and the other drivers in action on Saturday will open at 5:00 p.m. with racing at 7:00.  Adult tickets for Saturday’s race are $30.00.  Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00.  For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free.  Advance tickets are available 24 hours a day online at https://www.tix.com/ticket-sales/pas/7  or by calling 1-800-595-4849.  For those who do not want to purchase advance tickets, there will be plenty of tickets for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday.  The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking.
