A Familiar Face Stepping Aside at Perris Auto Speedway Before the 2026 Season

Perris, California — December 24, 2025 — When Perris Auto Speedway launches its 30th Diamond Anniversary season with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and PASSCAR Street Stocks and Factory Stocks on February 14, one longtime and familiar face will be missing. Veteran race director Steve Alldis announced several months ago that 2025 would be his final year working regularly at the track.
Alldis, a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, has been associated with the track for nearly two decades and is truly a jack of all trades. While his main job has been race director, he has stepped in wherever he is needed. Over the years, he has worn many hats, and even spent some time in the starter’s stand.
“One of the toughest jobs at any racetrack is the Race Director,” promoter Don Kazarian said. “Overseeing the competition is usually the easiest part of the job. Dealing with people can be a tough and bumpy road. Steve is a master at both disciplines. I want to thank him for all of his hard work at The PAS, and he will be sorely missed. He is a true professional and a good friend.”
To many, Alldis, a former race car builder and crew chief, begins his race day work after the pit gates open around 2:00 p.m. In reality, his race day usually starts around 8:00 a.m., when he arrives to help with facility setup. He rarely leaves before 11:00 p.m., making for extremely long days—something he has done consistently for many years.
“After 20 years, right now it is not hard to do it,” Alldis answered when asked if it was difficult to step away from the job. “Maybe down the road I might regret it a little bit, but I don’t think I am going to. Stepping into this new adventure is going to take up a lot of time on the weekends.”
That new adventure, of course, still involves racing. Earlier this year, Alldis purchased a quarter midget for his granddaughter, Hailey Boydston, to compete with the SoCal Quarter Midget Racing Association.
“So far it has been a blast,” Alldis said about the foray into quarter-midget racing. “Racing with the granddaughter is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m really enjoying it so far.”
The proximity of the quarter-midget track will keep Alldis close to The PAS. In fact, the small track sits just behind the front straightaway grandstands, roughly 50 feet from the press box where he has served as race director for the past two decades. He will be at the speedway one or two times a week when the quarter midgets race and will also lend a hand anytime Kazarian needs his help.
“Enjoy it with the wife,” Alldis said when asked how he plans to spend his time when his granddaughter is not racing. “We do not do much vacationing, so mainly it will be hanging out together and spending my time with her.”
Taking over the race director’s role in 2026 will be Steve Russell. A longtime First Division Speedway Motorcycle racer, Russell first worked at the track as the scoreboard operator. He later advanced to starter and, midway through last season, was brought upstairs to learn the race director’s role under Alldis’ tutelage in the press box. The countdown to Perris Auto Speedway’s Diamond Anniversary 30th Season is continuing. Less than eight weeks remain until the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars and the PASSCAR Street Stocks and American Factory Stocks open the historic season on February 14.
