FINAL 2024 NIGHT OF DESTRUCTION AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SATURDAY, ALONG WITH TRICK OR TREATING

By: PAS

(Perris, CA, October 24, 2024) The leaves are beginning to change colors, and cooler temperatures are starting to present themselves, which can only mean one thing for racetracks.  The season is coming to an end.  Perris Auto Speedway still has two events left before its 28th season comes to a conclusion on November 9th.  The first of the two events is this Saturday, October 26th, when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents the final Night of Destruction of the season.

In addition to racing on Saturday, the track will host its annual Halloween Night.  During intermission, all of the drivers and cars will park on the front straightaway to pass out candy to the kids.  As well as the candy giveaway, there will be Halloween Costume contests for the youngsters.

“This is always one of our favorite nights of the year,” promoter Don Kazarian said.  “Not only because of the crazy action supplied by Night of Destruction presented by LKQ Pick Your Part but also seeing all the kids in costumes in the grandstands. It has become a tradition for us to have all the kids on the track at intermission, collecting candy from the drivers and then having a costume contest for them as well. We pride ourselves on always presenting great racing and also on presenting clean, fun shows the entire family can enjoy.”

“Not only for our fans, but for our drivers as well, this is the last Night of Destruction, until 2025,” Kazarian continued.  “That means it is going to be a rough and tumble night.  It is always one of the wildest nights of the year and is a no-holds-barred showdown, as the drivers have a few months to fix their cars before the first event of the 2025 season.  It is going to be an edge-of-your-seat night of action.”

The biggest story coming into Saturday’s show surrounds Earl Cox Jr.  The son of famous Ascot Figure 8 driver Earl Cox Sr., the Norco, California resident, has won all seven Figure 8 main events staged at the Riverside County speedplant this season.  While he already has one hand on his fourth track Figure 8 championship and the second in a row, the attention will be focused on whether he can become the first Figure 8 driver to have a perfect season at Perris.  The title would also break the tie between Cox and Beaumont’s Jesse Gordon, who are currently deadlocked with three championships each.  Gordon is second in points going into Saturday and still has a mathematical chance of stealing the crown.

Riverside’s Alex Kiss holds a slender nine-point lead over San Jacinto’s Trebor Stephens in the Demo Cross class.  However, Stephens, who is the defending class champion, may be the favorite going into Saturday’s race, as Kiss may miss the night of action to attend a friend’s wedding.  San Diego’s Daniel Soto, who drives the crowd favorite “Impaler,” is the only other driver with a mathematical chance to win the Demo Cross title.

For the second season in a row, Whittier’s Michael Schattilly will be crowned Figure 8 Trailer race champion.  He comes into the night 63 points ahead of second-place Brett Wayland of Corona.  With only 60 points available, that title is already sewn up.  Wayland is only three markers ahead of Robb Multhaupt Jr. of Orange.  So, second place is yet to be decided.

The fight for the mini-stock championship is nearly sewn up as well.  Steven Green Sr. leads Steven Green Jr. by 45 points.  While 60 points are awarded to the winner, the race pays 30 points just to start.  Thus, if Steve Sr. starts the main event, he would be guaranteed to extend that lead to 75 points.  Even with a win, Steve Jr. could not catch him at that point.  Last year’s champ, Kris Martin of Riverside, is third.

Another class where the championship has already been decided is the crowd-favorite Double Deckers.  The “Bug Ya’ Later” drivers, Lonnie Skillman and Don McCall, have an insurmountable lead going into the finale.

The overall Iron Man championship, which combines all the classes, will come down to two drivers on Saturday. Those two are Schattilly and Multhaupt.  Schattilly has a 93-point lead going into the night.  However, each of the two competes in three classes.  Thus, 180 points are available.

Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM on the 26th, and the crashing will begin at 7:00. Adult tickets are $20.00. Kids six to 12 get in for only $5.00, and children five and under are free.  The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking.

After Saturday’s show, the track will take a week off before returning for the final race of 2024 when the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars will headline a show that will also feature the GAS Chassis Young Gun and Senior Sprints.  In addition, it will also be Jerry Dodd’s Champion’s Night for the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and American Factory Stocks.
