(Perris, CA, September 19, 2024) When Perris Auto Speedway opens the gates for this Saturday’s racing program, the show will not only feature the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. In addition, the PASSCAR Super Stocks, American Factory Stocks, GAS Chassis Young Gun Sprints, and The PAS Senior Sprints will also be in action. Gates for the multi-division show will open at 5:00 PM, and the first race will take Steve Russell’s green flag at 7:00.

PASSCAR Super Stocks

Heading into this week’s battles on the famous half-mile clay oval, two divisions, the GAS Chassis Young Guns, and PAS Senior Sprints could see the 2024 championships decided on Saturday.  However, the Super Stock and Street Stock titles look like they will come down to the season’s final night on November 9th.

Heading into Saturday’s race, the tightest battle is in the American Factory Stocks. David Stites, a resident of Canyon Lake, comes into the night with the slenderest point lead one could have. He is a single point clear of second-place driver Ethan Kintop of Nuevo. If that is not close enough, Stites’ best friend, David Uraine of Menifee, is only six points out of first.

After a disastrous start to the 2024 campaign when he finished 13th on opening night, Stites, the 2022 class champion has reeled off three straight wins.  The only other driver with a win in 2024 is Uraine.  Kintop has only finished out of the top three one time and that came when he placed fourth in April.

James Keller of Jurupa Valley, who placed second and fourth in the first two races, is currently fourth in the championship standings.  Casey Multhaupt, a fourth grade school teacher from Lake Elsinore, who is in her first season of Factory Stock racing, rounds out the top five.

In the PASSCAR Super Stocks, Chuck Becker of Yucaipa holds a narrow two-point lead over Buena Park’s Billy Griffin.  The two have been racing against each other for over 40 years.  Both of the longtime racers have two wins in 2024.  Becker has not finished worse than fourth, and Griffin has not finished farther back than third this year.  However, Becker has earned enough extra points in the preliminary heats for his two-point advantage in the championship standings.

Veteran second-generation driver Tom Wesolowski of Canyon Lake is third.  He trails second-place Griffin by 14 markers.  However, he feels the heat from last year’s champion, Ricky Lee, who is only two points out of the show spot.  Kameron Perry, who came up to the Super Stocks after competing in LKQ Pick Your Part Night of Destructions, is fifth and is the class’s leading rookie.

In addition to the regulars in the Super Stocks, Riverside’s Tyson Talkington, who last week was crowned 2024 Super Stock champion at the Mohave Valley Raceway, will be back on Saturday night.  1999 and 2001 PAS Stock Car champion Rick Arringdale will be joining him.  It will be Arringdale’s first race at the track in nearly 20 years.

The two sprint car classes are the opposite of the stock cars regarding point races.  In the GAS Chassis Young Gun Sprints, Westminster’s Brecken Guererro has a commanding 57-point lead over Redland’s Jake McKee.  With a good performance on Saturday, Guererro could sew up the title and collect the brand-new GAS Chassis that goes with it.  Local Cody Deloye of Riverside, Apple Valley’s Sean Rogers, and 17-year-old Seth Dyer of Yucca Valley are third through fifth.  Dyer swept the show at the August race, winning the heat and the main last month.

Tustin’s Bob Suchy can sew up the Senior Sprint title with a good run on Saturday.  Fellow Orange County resident Greg Badgwell of Yorba Linda, who won his first-ever main in June, is second.  Nuevo’s Mike Kotlinski, surfer Tyler Hatzikian of Murrieta, and Jeff Shelton of Santa Clarita make up the remainder of the top five.

In addition to the racing, the famous 28-year-old half-mile clay oval will play host to a sports equipment drive to supply children with sports gear.  The person hosting the drive is Miss Arizona United States, Shelby Waldron.  She will be collecting used sports items (gloves, helmets, balls, racquets etc) to distribute to kids who otherwise could not afford them. So please check out your garage and closets and bring along usable sports items to the track on Saturday.

Adult tickets for Saturday’s exciting racing program are $30.00.  Seniors 65 and over get in for $25.00. For kids 6 to 12, it is only $5.00, and children five and under are admitted free. The fairground charges $10.00 for parking.
