Speedway, Indiana (June 25, 2026)………It’s been 54 years since Ohio and Michigan have appeared on back-to-back nights on the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship slate.

It finally happens again this weekend as the series visits Findlay, Ohio’s Millstream Speedway on Friday night, June 26. The weekend caps at Quincy, Michigan’s Butler Motor Speedway on Saturday night, June 27.

Here’s a look at some of the storylines heading into a Border War weekend in the Midwest!

CUMMINS STORMIN’

Kyle Cummins seemingly has everything going for him entering this weekend.

He’s fresh off a USAC Eastern Storm championship and currently holds an 87-point lead in the season-long USAC National Sprint Car standings. He also won the main events at both Millstream and Butler one year ago.

The Princeton, Indiana native led all 30 laps in 2025 at Millstream and engaged in a fantastic duel with Justin Grant to win last year’s round at Butler.

MOLES BOUNCIN’ BACK

For Mitchel Moles, it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times last week at Eastern Storm.

He missed out on the championship by just two points after winning twice last week at Big Diamond Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway and has now won four out of the past seven USAC National Sprint Car main events.

He very well could get it rolling again this weekend. He owns the one-lap USAC track record at both Millstream and Butler, set one year ago. Furthermore, in 2025, he finished second at Millstream and fourth at Butler. He now looks to add on to his series high six wins on the circuit this season.

DANNER GRINNIN’

Briggs Danner has been on a run of late as well. In his last 10 USAC National Sprint Car races, he has accumulated nine top-10 finishes, 8 top-fives and three wins. Overall, he now possesses a career best four wins with the series this season.

Last year at Millstream, he took fourth and was 10th at Butler. He does hold the 8-lap USAC track record at Butler of 1:58.218 in winning his heat race there in 2025.

GRANT EYES WINNIN’ 100

Justin Grant’s race to 100 career USAC national victories continues this weekend as he aims to join an exclusive group of five who’ve previously hit the century mark.

It’s a crew that includes the likes of A.J. Foyt (159), Rich Vogler (134), Mel Kenyon (111) and Dave Darland (106).

Grant didn’t notch 100 during Eastern Storm but did rack up top-six finishes in all five starts, including a second at Williams Grove. He nearly won at Butler a year ago, leading 13 laps and finishing second. He was fifth at Millstream.

HAYDEN NEXT?

Hayden Reinbold put together one of the finest finishes of his USAC National Sprint Car career at Butler, taking third in 2025. His first visit to Millstream last year didn’t go quite as well, flipping early in the feature while running eighth.

Reinbold is one of three drivers to win in two different USAC national divisions this year alongside Justin Grant and Logan Seavey. Reinbold won with the Silver Crown series in May at the Kansas State Fairgrounds, then won with the Midgets at Circle City Raceway in June.

Perhaps a first career USAC National Sprint Car win is next.

NOT SINCE 1972 FOR OHIO & MICHIGAN

It’s been 54 years since Ohio and Michigan have hosted USAC National Sprint Car events on back-to-back nights. Oddly enough, all previous occurred in the month of June, just like this weekend!

In 1972, Don Nordhorn won at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway, then Gary Bettenhausen scored the next night at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway.

Sammy Sessions doubled up in 1971 by winning at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway, then won again the following evening at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway.

Back in 1970, the Larry & Gary show dominated the season, and likewise, in this border war. Larry Dickson got the first win at Michigan’s Berlin Raceway and Gary Bettenhausen tallied the victory one night later at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway.
